First of all the Alicante Train station connects you to the mainland of Spain with regular high-speed trains.
At the present the Alicante station is located in the city center, it is very close to several hotels and less than half a mile from the central bus station.

High speed trains.
At the end of June 2013 the high-speed train between Alicante and Madrid will start riding
In total 14 (7 each direction) trains each with 900 places on board will ride daily on this railway . By using the high-speed train the trip to Madrid or Alicante will take you about 2 hours and 15 minutes, the scheduled price of a tourist ticket will cost you about 130 Euros back and forth but we expect to see some promotions to go back forth for a cheap price.
Alicante Madrid.
Price of a train ticket to Madrid will cost about 65 euro and will take about 2 and a half hours with the new High Speed trains.
Every day 22 train are running on this trajectory eleven in directions of Madrid and 11 in direction to Alicante.
Renfe is even looking in to decrease the travel time to just around 2 hours and 5 minutes.
Alicante Sevilla.
At the end of July Renfe will launch an experiment to connect Sevilla and Alicante which will run 3 times a week. In sum this service will start the 27 of July and will run on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Of course the train will have an 15 min stop in Madrid and the journey takes about four and a half hours. If this train service is a success they will extend the service pas the end of the summer holidays.
By changing in Madrid you are also possible to use the AVE services which can take you to Malaga and Cadiz.
Then the train will leave Seville from 9.05 am and will arrive at Alicante at 13.35.
From Alicante the train will depart at 16.00 and arrive at Seville at 20.42
Each train will have a cafe and will offer 324 seats.

Alicante Zaragoza.
Due to the success of the connection with Madrid, Renfe has announced that during the Summer season , Alicante will be connected to Zaragoza by the High speed trains without the need of changing trains.
The Train will leave Alicante from 16.10 and will arrive at 20.33 In Zaragoza.
In Zaragoza the train will leave at 9 o clock and will arrive at 13.30.
The Journey will take about 4 hours and 10 minutes which is about 2 hours difference with the old connection.
Getting to and from the Alicante train station
On Foot.
Because the station is well situated you can easily travel to the center of the city on foot.
Busses.
Busses that arrive at the station are 6, 9, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24.
