San Miguel de Salinas is located in the South of the Costa Blanca.
The town lies within the region of Alicante.
The nearby villages are the popular Torrevieja and Orihuela .

San Miguel de Salinas: climate 

In fact the weather is excellent. It is sure a Mediterranean climate what means more than 320 days of sun on a year. To sum up , the summers are warm, the winters are nice.
Lastly there are many foreign residents from West Europe , who are already enjoying  the advantages of this climate.
Indeed the weather is mostly sunny with a blue clear sky.

Access.

First of all there is a very good connection. From San Miguel de Salinas, there is an easily access to the motorway of the AP7 .This motorway connects Alicante – Murcia .
From San Miguel de Salinas it take a half hour drive to the airport of Murcia- San Javier or to the  airport of Alicante- El Altet .

San Miguel de Salinas: village.

San Miguel de Salinas is situated on a hill 75 meters above sea level, with a beautiful panorama on the salt lakes of Torrevieja and La Mata .
San Miguel de Salinas is like many places on the Costa Blanca very popular to West en Northern Europeans.
For example the small town occupies an area of 54 km 2 and the population have been tripled the last 20 years.
In the Town Hall there is also  the Tourist Information Office.

On one hand San Miguel de Salinas does not have beaches itself, as it is located in the middle of the countryside. But  on the other hand the popular Orihuela Costa is only 10 minutes drive away. The Orihuela Costa  with his  beautiful beaches and his lively marinas,
in fact ,the countryside is very attractive in San Miguel de Salinas.
North of  San Miguel de Salinas there are the Salt Lakes nature park of Torrevieja and La Mata .
South of the town  there are the many  lemon and orange trees from Orihuela city. The lemon and orange groves release a sweet lovely fragrance. Especially when they are in blossom. still we adore it each time. It is the smell of Spain.
At the west side the “La Pedrera water reservoir”, with the blue clear water, and the mountains of the  Sierra Escalona and La Pena.
Near the” La Pedrera” lake there is a multi- adventure park: Lo Rufete . Read more about in the paragraph below.

The town has many bars, restaurants and little supermarket. The other shops are really Spanish shops.
If you want to shop till you drop than go surely to the nearby Habaneras Shopping center or the Zenia Boulevard. Both are a 15 minutes drive from San Miguel de Salinas.

Market.

Every Wednesday morning from 8.00 to 13.00 in the streets of the town.
The local street market is a very colorful event. The market is popular  with locals and tourists from nearby Orihuela Costa.
On the market  there are selling food, vegetables, fruits, flowers, clothes, shoes…

 

San Miguel Church.


Date back to the early 18th century. In 1829 there was a heavy earthquake in the region of Torrevieja and San Miguel de Salinas, the church is the only building that survived.
The inside has been restored, so it is possible to climb to the bell-tower and enjoy a fantastic view over the pink salt lakes, the countryside with the citrus trees and the mountains. Tip :  do not forget to take your camera with you.
The opening hours of the church of San Miguel is  from 10.00 to 12.00. It is recommended to ask the permission to the priest to visit the bell tower. It happened that some tourist find the door locked when they came back from their climb.

A nice thing to visit in Salinas are the cave houses or Las Cuevas, with even a restaurant in the cave.

Fiesta in San Miguel de Salinas.

in fact the locals and the expats come together on different local fiestas.
One of them is the  “August fair”, one other is the celebration of the patron of San Miguel at the end of September.
In November, come to this nice town to enjoy the “Santa Cecila fiesta” a musical festival. Last but not least ;  the parades in the” Holy Week ” or the ” La Semana Santa”  with Easter.

“La Rufete” at San Miguel de Salinas.

First , “La Rufete” is not only a rural ” finca” but also a multi adventure park.  About a half kilometer away from San Miguel de Salinas  to the west,  is the “La Pedrera ” lake.
To the south you can see the beautiful “Sierra Escalona” with his forest of pines.
To the North a beautiful chain of mountains.
In fact when there is a adventure park nearby a lake, there are kayaks and giant inflatables. Indeed a fun and healthy way to enjoy water sports on a sunny day.
Nearby the blue lake you can use the 2 BBQ and the picnic area with toilets.

At “La Rufete” you can hire quad and use the private quad circuit of more than 10.000 m2.
Adults can also go out on excursions to discover the lake and enjoy the beautiful environment.
For the horse lovers there is 16 school horses, four carriages and three riding schools. Again there is a wide range of horses to suit the adults but also the children.There are hacks around the  lake.

Close to this there is a  paintball field plus all the equipment needed.
And that is not enough, there is also an archery ground for the lovers of Robin Hood with 12 targets, bows and of course  everything else  necessary.
For the little ones , “La Rufete” has a nice mini golf course and a bouncy castle.

In “La Rufete”  nature and private property must be respected.
The best is the park is open all year round. In winter season from 9.00 till 14.00 and from 15.30 till 19.00. In summer season from 9.00 till 14.00 and from 16.00 till 20.00.

In brief, the park has much to offer , only a short drive away from Torrevieja or Orihuela Costa.

 

Trips.

During your stay in San Miguel de Salinas you can make nice day trips.
Because San Miguel de Salinas is located perfectly to visit Orihuela city, Torrevieja, the beaches of Orihuela Costa or Alicante. The best is that these places are less than an hour away by car.
Or why not cross the region border and visit the province of the southern situated Murcia.
Close to the province border there are places like the Mar Menor, Cartagena and Murcia.
Indeed this takes you an hour drive.

Even if San Miguel de Salinas  is a very nice little town, it is the place to take a very nice holiday.
After all, so many other North European expats enjoy the real Spanish Mediterranean life style.

After all San Miguel de Salinas offers a sunny Mediterranean life only 10 minutes drive from the blue Sea and the beaches.
