Vega Baja, a part of the Costa Blanca

This region the Vega Baja is the land between dunes , monument and salt.
It is a part of the well-known Costa Blanca.
The Costa Blanca is very popular for the tourist.

The coast of the Costa Blanca is full of contrast.

This region with beautiful beaches,  the zen beauty of the Lagunas de la Mata and the kilometers sand dunes of Guardamar.

The Guardamar coastline is the place to find secluded coves and beaches.
The river Segura has created its own unique environment, as its flow into the Mediterranean Sea.
Every inch of this coastline  will sure seduce you.
In Veja Baga you can fish, sail, snorkeling or dive. Additional, for a more relax holiday  you can take  boat trips.
The beaches  with the coves  are picture-proof . Sand , rocks and palm trees. A little paradise.
Infact, the salt lakes of Veja Baga are of a great beauty.  More specifically,  the Lagunas of La Mata and the Torrevieja Nature park.
While the Sea and Salt Museum relates the history of the salt industry.

The district capital of the Vega Baga is Orihuela.
The Orihuela Costa is also very popular by tourist.

Many tourist like the Vega Baja  for the golf.
Indeed, their rare  eight golf courses in the district with four in Orihuela alone.
The other golf courses are in Pilar de Horadada, Rojales Algorfa and Jacarilla.
The region of the Vega Baja is also known as the garden of the Costa Blanca.

The region is watered by the Segura River.
For instance, artichokes, garlic, carrots, onions, aubergines, lettuces, cucumbers.
Make sure you try the local artichokes.
The towns of  the Vega Baja lie along the fertile  river plain.
The systems of irrigation stretch back to the times of the Arabs

Spain would not be Spain without fruit.
In the region grown as well vegetables  as citrus fruits. For instance, lemon and oranges.

A walk around the Vega Baja

A new walking route is open since January 2016.
It is called the PR CV 442. But it also called the giant cauldron or in Spanish the Caledra del Gigante.

First, this route starts at Montemar urbanization an Algorfa. Then passes by El Hoyo Serrano. Next, along the groves alongside the river Segura.
Then, the walk passes the municipalities of Almoradi and Rojales.
At last, the walk finish in Benejuzar.
As a result, that it takes around five hours to walk the 17 kilometers.
In particular, this walking path has been designed by students of tourism department. The responsible  in the region put on  a leisure employment workshop.

In other words, the route is worth the walk.
Alongside the path  you can find information about the flora and the fauna that can be encountered.
For example,  the European eagle owl.
Another example of the fauna are rabbits foxes squirrels, lizards….

As you can see, worth the walk.
